The anti-discrimination student movement has organized a memorial service at the foot of the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University for the students killed in the clash with the police and Chhatra League during the ongoing movement demanding reform of quota in government jobs. According to the pre-announced program, the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 2 pm. In the meantime, the police have taken a cautious position in the TSC area keeping this program of the quota activists in front of them.
On this afternoon, it was seen that a team of police was stationed in the direction of Bangla Academy, another team in the direction of VC Chatter and another team in the direction of Shaheed Minar.
Incidentally, the quota reform movement that has been going on for more than a week and a half turned violent on Monday. The next day, Tuesday, this violence took a more terrible form. Six people, including ordinary passers-by, died in clashes with the Chhatra League and the police in different parts of the country, including the capital. Hundreds of agitating students and Chhatra League leaders were injured. In this situation, considering the safety of students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has ordered the closure of the educational programs of all public and private universities and affiliated colleges for an indefinite period. At the same time, the National University has also announced the closure of all its affiliated colleges.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in response to a journalist's question about the quota on Sunday, 'Why is there so much anger about the liberation war? The freedom fighter's grandsons will get nothing, Razakar's grandsons will get everything? They claim that the Prime Minister has insulted the protesters by calling them 'grandsons of Rajakar'.
Therefore, the students of various educational institutions, including Dhaka University, started protesting from midnight on Sunday to demand the withdrawal of the Prime Minister's comments and a one-point demand for quota reform.
The protest got bigger on Monday afternoon. Chhatra League clashed with protesters at Dhaka University. More than three hundred students were injured in the clash that continued from 3 pm to 9 pm. After 10 pm, the agitators announced a new program and called upon students and common people from all walks of life across the country to take to the streets in their support.
Chhatra League and police took a hardline position against the agitators on Tuesday. 6 people lost their lives in different parts of the country including the capital in the clashes that started in the afternoon.
