The government wants to suppress the quota movement at any cost
The government and the ruling party Awami League now think that the only thing to do is to suppress the student quota reform movement at any cost. It is believed that if this movement is not suppressed now, the situation will go out of control.
According to several sources related to the Awami League and the government, the situation that has developed in the country including the capital in the last few days, especially since Monday, is a threat and a blow to the existence of the Awami League and the government.
If this continues, the situation will become more unstable and there is a danger that it will go out of control.
Therefore, those policy makers feel that the only way to control the situation is to quickly and immediately stop the ongoing movement anyway.
Awami League and government policy makers believe that there is a conspiracy to turn the ongoing quota reform movement of students into a movement to overthrow the government.
They say that armed men are seen inside the students’ movement, blocking the road with guts in their hands. Ordinary students cannot take to the streets with weapons like this.
BNP-Jamaat, Chhatra Dal-Chatra Shibir cadres have taken the leadership of the movement. Because of this, casualties are happening.
Six people were killed and many were seriously injured on Tuesday in clashes centered around the student quota movement. In this situation, the government and the Awami League are worried and apprehensive about the ongoing movement.
Considering the overall situation, the government and party policy makers feel that there is no alternative but to suppress the movement. Several initiatives have already been taken, including the closure of all educational institutions. Strict instructions have been given to law and order forces to prevent incidents like vandalism, obstruction, creating unstable situation on the roads.
Besides, politically, Awami League and all its affiliated organizations have also been asked to stay in the field. Leaders and activists have been instructed to take a strong stand across the country including the capital to deal with any situation. Already, leaders and activists of various organizations including the Chhatra League have taken to the streets. It is known from several sources of the Awami League that the leaders and workers of all levels of the party will take a stand in the field.
However, Awami League leaders do not want to speak openly about these issues. No one wants to say anything after the statement of the Prime Minister and the general secretary of the party.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the nation on Wednesday evening. In her speech, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “I believe that those involved in the quota reform movement have nothing to do with these terrorists.” Rather, terrorists are entering into them and creating conflict and anarchy. Those involved in such incidents will be identified and punished accordingly.
Earlier in the afternoon, General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader gave instructions on what to do on behalf of the party in a speech given at an event.
Awami League general secretary said, you should get ready in each ward. Even today, they have an agenda of creating terrible violence. Not only the power of the police, but the power of our party which fought the liberation war in Bangladesh, must be used today. On behalf of the leader, I am instructing that the evil evil forces should be resisted with a strong position throughout the country.
He said, we will not give any exemption to the anti-independence. Now there is no quota movement and general student movement. BNP-Jamaat, Chhatra Dal-Chatrashibir want to turn this movement into a movement to overthrow the government. The leadership of the movement has passed into the hands of evil forces. Our existence is being attacked, threatened. We have to deal with this situation.
